I have been inactive for several years and just joined a gym. How would you recommend I get started to lose weight and get some definition? |

Before giving advice on your workout I need to ask some questions, since you have not been active as you say; have you gotten clearance from your doctor; do you have any health concerns that would be affected by exercise? Do you or have you had any muscle or joint injuries? (Knee, lower back, elbow).
If you have none of the above issues I would recommend starting out 2 x 3 times a week and as you become more comfortable work up to 3 x 4 times a week. Cardio should definitely be in your routine, start out with 5 minutes and build up to at leas 20 minutes. As you progress you can either increase your time or intensity. Weight training is vital not only for men but all so for women.
Start out using the machines most gyms provide if you don’t feel comfortable with using free weight. The machines all have instructions on how to use them. Start off with a weight you feel comfortable with so you can see how the movement feels. You can increase the weight as you get stronger and more confident.
If you still have concerns look into hiring a trainer for 10 sessions just to get you going.
